Disasters such as fires, floods, explosions and other natural catastrophes can cause danger to employees, customers and the public. How you react during an emergency can save your life and those around you. Having a disaster plan in place can minimize disastrous outcomes.
An Emergency Preparedness Plan helps minimize or prevent injuries, loss of life and widespread property damage. It contains step-by-step instructions in the event of a disaster or emergency.
How to Protect Yourself
Identify the “seek shelter” location within or outside your building
Familiarize yourself with all exit doors and fire escapes
Participate in emergency drills
Know your facility’s emergency management coordinator
Have a list of emergency phone numbers which also include local police, fire departments and paramedics
Review your building’s preparedness plan or other available security materials provided
Know your role in the disaster plan
Keep well-informed of weather forecasts and other factors that may threaten your environment.
Objective of Emergency Readiness Plan:
Determine a preplanned course of action
Provide maximum utilization of resources
Establish a plan for outside agencies when responding and providing assistance with emergency situations
Create a chain of command
Identify the role of security personnel
